No matter how many days we want to spend in Krakow, it's always worth being close to the heart of the city – the Old Town. The Alexander gives us such an opportunity (5 minutes on foot to the Market Square), which in combinations with its other advantages makes it worth seriously considering when searching for inexpensive accommodations. The hotel celebrates its fifth anniversary this year, so we can enjoy brand-new furniture and modern, but simple décor.
Its 35 rooms don't make it a giant, but rather a cozy hotel with a bar and a restaurant, located on a quiet side street.
It can serve as a venue for a cozy business meeting – the hotel offers a conference room which can accommodate several dozen people.
The Alexander received a second-place award in the 2005 edition in the “Best Hotel in Poland” competition.
Rooms
The rooms – singles, doubles and triples with the total number of 35 don't have any unifying style. The idea was probably for them to just look neat and modern. We are not paying extra for mirrors in massive frames, decorative lamps, Louis XVI-style furniture or other such additions. Instead, we have a clean room without any particular ambience.
All rooms are air-conditioned, they have their own bathrooms with shower, TV SAT, radio telephone and mini bar. They also have wired internet access.
The hotel has one room for disabled guests. There is a lift in the hotel.
Restaurant
There is a restaurant and a drink bar on the premises. Prices are quite decent, so why nit try for example the “Cream of tomato with puff pastry croutons” and “Pork tenderloin in chanterelle sauce” or “Flaming duck breast in cranberry sauce”, add “Ice cream with eggnog liqueur ad cr?me de cacao” and pay less than 50 PLN for the whole thing. If we want just a two-course meal in a more modest version, we can only pay half that amount and we still won't leave the table hungry.
A meal can also be delivered to the room.
Conference
The Alexander is not a typical conference hotel, in whose hallways are filled with lecturers from all over the world. With its one conference room capable of holding up to 50 people, it's rather oriented towards more cozy events. The conference room is fully air-conditioned and equipped with a flipchart, transparency projector and a screen. There is a possibility to totally darken the room.
Additional services
Good news for guests who bring their own cars – there is a place to park around the hotel (not always easy in the center of Krakow). It costs 40 PLN for 24 hours.
The front office staff will gladly assist us with taking an excursion around Krakow or outside the city. It has quite a bit of experience in that regard.
