Our ranking: a large hotel belonging to the Orbis chain, located right next to Krakow's Blonia Park. Tourists, for whom economical accommodations and a short distance to the Old Town and the Wawel Castle are the most important criteria, will have no reason to complain.
The Cracovia has several strong advantages, among which its location close to the Błonia Park, Wawel Castle and the Old Town is probably the most important. Another one is excellent public transportation. The third one – low rates, especially if we take advantage of special offers proposed by the Orbis chain the hotel belongs to.
More than 300 rooms make the hotel one of Krakow's largest and during the season it attracts crowds of tourists. Unfortunately, the hotel is well past its prime and if we want a new, well-maintained interior, it's better to look elsewhere.
There is an inexpensive restaurant and bar on the premises.
The hotel is a good solution if we want to save some money on accommodations and spend it instead on Krakow's attractions.
Rooms, numbering over 300 in total, are clean and well-kept for their age, however Orbis should consider renovation. There are singles, doubles and several apartments available. Singles are a bit too small. Bathrooms and rooms themselves are clean. Generally, they don't lack anything; however, it's much nicer to live in new or at least recently renovated rooms.
Standard equipment of the rooms includes TV SAT, telephone and radio.
After purchasing an access card, it's possible to use wireless internet.
Air conditioning would be useful, especially in rooms facing the street. Sometimes there's too much traffic noise audible in them when we open a window too wide.
Similarly, if we encounter a larger group (for instance a school excursion), we may not be able to enjoy quietness, although that's something we have to take into consideration when staying at a large hotel.
Getting acquainted with the restaurant while having breakfast, we can have quite a good opinion. The buffet selection is good, tasty and allows one to gain energy for the start of the day. Prices in the restaurant are as low as those for hotel accommodations.
There's also a cafe in the hotel with an adjacent glass-covered terrace from which there's a view of the Błonia Park.
The hotel has its own guarded car park. Unfortunately, it isn't cheap – it costs 45 PLN for 24 hours.
There's wireless internet access at the hotel. That service is available for an extra fee of 10 or 20 PLN, depending on the type of access card we purchase.
The Cracovia is located at the intersection of 2 major streets, across from Krakow's Błonia Park. It's a huge, five-story concrete building with a large logo that really catches the eye.
The location is perfect if we dream of an evening walk among the greenery or to the nearby National Museum.
Only ten or fifteen minutes (if we prefer a slower pace) will take us to reach the Old Town on foot.
We can just as easily and quickly reach the Vistula River and from there take a walk along a boulevard to Wawel Castle.
There's a cinema right near the hotel.
Transportation from the PKP train station and the PKS bus terminal is excellent. Trams and buses stop right in front of the hotel. The airport is 12 kilometers away and the PKP/PKS stations are located 4 kilometers from the hotel.
Around there's a vibrant city with many shops, including a large department store across the street going towards the Vistula River.
