The Wawel is not only located in the historic part of town " between the Old town and the Wawel Castle, on the „Royal Route”, but it also has its own long history. Built in the 16th century, it was known at the beginning of the 19th century as the "Under the Black Eagle” Inn. In 1850 it was renamed as the Hotel Narodowy (National Hotel). Some elements of the Art Nouveau style that characterized the hotel at that time have survived to this day. So, there's no need to dwell upon the subject " this hotel undoubtedly has its own, unique ambience.
Cozy, generously-sized rooms, whose décor and quietness immediately make us relax and feel the touch of luxury that the hotel's owners wanted to welcome us with.
Around the hotel there are not only many monuments, but also several exceptional restaurants (including one with superb Italian cuisine). The hotel's location is great " only a few minute walk takes us to the Old Town and the Kazimierz district.
Rooms
The hotel can accommodate 80 people, offering two types of rooms: lux and standard. There are single rooms, doubles, triples and quadruples. Some rooms are air-conditioned and freshly renovated.
The hotel is quiet. There's plenty of space, perhaps even more than in a typical hotel. The same is true when it comes to bathrooms.
In the hotel there are quite a few motifs related to the Art Nouveau style " as soon as we enter the lobby, we can see the furniture and decorations related to those bygone times. Even though the Wawel is several centuries old, it has been renovated several times, so the rooms are clean and show no signs of wear.
There are no rooms for the disabled or separate rooms for smokers and non-smokers.
Restaurant
Immersing ourselves in the atmosphere of old Poland, it's worth it to try a typical Polish dinner, prepared by the chef of the "Szabla i Szklanka” Restaurant, which is adjacent to the hotel. One must admit that both the restaurant's décor, as well as its dishes are very energizing " red brick, orange color and fire burning in a fireplace makes us want to endlessly keep tasting the menu's items.
Here we'll find many specialties of Hungarian cuisine served with the best wines. "Goose liver fried with pears in Tokay” won't let us pass this restaurant by. We absolutely must visit this place, even if the breakfast was again as generous and tasty as it traditionally is at this hotel.
Additional services
When it comes to parking a car, it's according to the "something for something” rule. The hotel's superb location in the Old Town makes it impossible to park a car near it for an extended period of time.
It's only possible for 30 minutes, i.e. mainly to unload or load the luggage. The nearest car park we can use is 300 meters away.
After all day of sightseeing in the city, the hotel invites its guests to use the modern wellness facilities, including aquatic treatments (Jacuzzi) and relaxing ones (steam bath). It's great that the owners decided to also make a mini spa available, especially such a cozy-looking one.
Front office agents will gladly help when it comes to organizing excursions around Krakow itself or its vicinity. Visiting this part of Poland, one must see at least the salt mine in Wieliczka or the Auschwitz concentration camp.
